Couples counselling and therapy
I offer support to people in relationships who are experiencing a breakdown in communication, lack of engagement or maybe seeking improved intimacy. At times couples may be considering ending their relationship and seeking to minimise conflict with the support of a therapist. The relationship is the focus, although the partners should expect self-exploration as we work to learn how you relate to each other.
I work to support all people in the relationship, and our work would include thinking about your issues differently and then beginning to make changes that, if faced unsupported, may seem daunting or out-of-reach. My impartial approach provides a thoughtful and safe environment for couples to think and talk freely and candidly about their feelings without being judged.
How does couple or relationship therapy work?
My aim will not be to resolve the issues for you but to work with all parties in the relationship and support you to develop your own skills so you can resolve the issues yourselves. I will encourage everyone in the relationship to talk openly with each other, this may at times also involve exploring your childhood and experiences. Analysing together your behavioural patterns and your communication style, I will help you to develop techniques and strategies to face the issues that brought you to ask for therapy. I will work to support you as a couple to take responsibility for your contribution to the difficulties you are facing in your relationship.
